Here are a few interesting things I’ve found over the past week on the Interwebs. Image may be NSFW.

- “Why your leadership is over-rated” — If you’re in charge (each of us, indeed, is at at some level), Mike Myatt, Chief Strategy Officer at N2growth, wants to let you in on a secret: You’re not quite the leader you believe.
Myatt lays out eight reasons why — and how you can change. His suggestions include: never stop learning; be kind; likeability matters; and attract, don’t repel.
- “Rethinking Recruiting” — Instead of waiting for perfect candidates, why not take a step back and think about the type of actual, practical skills that are needed in a job?
Jacque Vilet, president of Vilet International, suggests that employers consider hiring innovative thinkers without degrees; incorporating real-world projects in interviews; and adding non-HR professionals (think marketing, finance…) to the human resources department.
- “When Sir Patrick Stewart tweets for customer service, make it so” — Tricia Morris at Parature documents last month’s Twitter firestorm involving two generations of Star Trek captains — Picard and Kirk — complaining about Time Warner Cable’s customer service. Sir Patrick, frustrated with his cable-installation wait, tweeted “All I wanted to do was set up new account with TWCable_NYC but 36 hours later I’ve lost the will to live.”
Read how TWC tried to help, but exacerbated the problem by publicly tweeting for William Shatner’s assistance. Instead, Captain Kirk weighed in with his own TWC service issues.
- Webmarketing123 State of Digital Marketing Survey — Some interesting insights in Webmarketing123‘s second annual survey of 500 U.S. B2B and B2C marketing professionals.
Not surprisingly, generating leads, sales and increasing brand awareness are the top objectives for digital marketers. Surprisingly (or maybe not): Less than 21 percent of marketers are highly satisfied with the performance of SEO, PPC or SMM campaigns — regardless of whether managed internally or by agencies. Nonetheless, 90 percent plan to increase or maintain spending on search-engine optimization (SEO), pay-per-click (PPC) and social media marketing (SSM).
- Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee — Does what it says on the tin. Jerry Seinfeld drives an interesting car, picks up a fellow comedian and heads off to a unique NYC or LA joint for coffee, eats and conversation.
The episodes — including Larry David, Michael Richards, Ricky Gervais and Alec Baldwin — feature a jazz soundtrack, with dashboard cameras capturing Seinfeld and guests’ inane but hilarious conversations on their way to dine.
